Update: Microsoft Exam Retirement
Het is opnieuw tijd voor een update, er waren het afgelopen kwartaal weer veel wijzigingen en/of heroverwegingen op het gebied van examens en certificering. Status
Het is nog steeds druk bij Microsoft. Veel nieuwe producten zagen het daglicht in 2012 en 2013. Dit zorgt er ook voor dat in een ongekend kort tijdsbestek ruwweg driekwart van de Microsoft trainingen en examens vervangen is. Nieuwe examens en de nieuwe MCSA en MCSE certificeringen zijn een feit. Zijn de oude examens en certificeringen nu niet meer waardevol? Zeker niet! Wat zegt Microsoft hier nu zelf over op haar website: “Your certification will remain valuable as long as companies are using the relevant technologies.” “Certifications remain valid based on the technology needs and trends in the market and that are not designated as inactive on your transcript.” “When a certification is deemed no longer valid for current technology trends/solutions, that certification will transition to a Legacy status. As of September 2012, certifications designated as Legacy will no longer be available to be earned. Also beginning in September 2012, Legacy certifications will still appear on your transcript, but will be designated as Legacy.” “Even though a specific certification has been designated as Legacy, it may still have value to companies and individuals who are still using that older technology.”
Examens zijn Actief of Retired:
- Active – an exam and/or certification currently available on current technology in market
- Retired – the date in which an exam is no longer available in market
NOTE: any exam passed prior to it being retired can be counted towards any applicable active certification
Certificeringen kunnen drie mogelijke statussen hebben
- Legacy – a certification based on older technology, or that no longer meets current technology trends
- Inactive – a certification -MCSE, MCSD or MCSM- that requires recertification where recertification requirements have not been met
- Discontinued – the date in which a certification is no longer available in market
“NOTE: any certifications earned prior to being discontinued will remain on the transcript. In some cases, exams may remain in market after the certification is discontinued, but the certification will not be able to be earned after the discontinuation date.” Je kunt dus nu nog certificeren met de kennis die je nu bezit van de bestaande technieken en op het bestaande platform. Binnenkort zal dit niet meer mogelijk zijn. Maar het zal nog jaren duren voordat deze technieken niet meer dominant zijn in de markt, veel organisaties blijven vooralsnog bij hun huidige platform. Deze kennis, examens en certificering zal dus nog lange tijd waardevol blijven.
